From our Traverse City studio, we design modern homes that draw inspiration from the landscapes, materials, and architectural character unique to Northern Michigan and the greater Midwest. Michigan’s expansive freshwater shoreline and varied natural environments create remarkable opportunities for homes that establish a strong and meaningful connection to their surroundings. We make those connections.
Our work begins with careful observation. We study the context of each site – its topography, surrounding architecture, and environmental conditions – and translate those influences into thoughtful contemporary design. Through this process, we create homes that feel authentic to place and distinctly connected to Northern Michigan.
What Defines our Northern Michigan Work?
Creating Up North Contemporary
Northern Michigan has a strong architectural tradition shaped by its landscapes, materials, and seasonal rhythms, and we see an opportunity to push that tradition forward. Our work is driven by the idea of creating an Up North Contemporary style – a design language that respects the character and sensibilities of this region while introducing a more modern approach to form, materiality, and the way people experience space. The result is architecture that feels connected to place while helping define a new design vernacular for Northern Michigan.
Where do we work?While our studio is based in Traverse City, our work extends throughout Northern Michigan and beyond. We regularly work across the greater Grand Traverse region, including Traverse City, Old Mission Peninsula, Leelanau Peninsula, Northport, and communities along Grand Traverse Bay. Our projects also extend throughout Glen Lake, Glen Arbor, Long Lake, along the Lake Michigan shoreline, throughout the greater Grand Rapids area, and in other areas where thoughtful, place-driven architecture is valued.
