Located within a forested mountain landscape, Two-By is organized as parallel gabled volumes that slide past one another to create a simple yet dynamic form. The western volume contains the primary living spaces, while the eastern volume houses private sleeping and bathing areas. A glass entry pavilion separates and connects the two forms, reinforcing their distinct identities while creating a transparent threshold. Dark cedar cladding unifies the exterior and contrasts with the warm exposed wood structure, while expansive glazing and large sliding doors open to a covered patio and strengthen the connection to the surrounding forest.
Mountain Modern
The goal was to design a house that felt decidedly Mountain Modern in its identity, from the form down to the materials and details.
The result was a house with an intuitive layout and a simple form, with exposed wood and steel structural elements, and a material and detail palette that fits in its forested, mountain setting.
