Raised Up

Classic Transformation

The owners of a traditional single-story bungalow needed more space for modern living while also wanting to preserve the classic character that originally drew them to the home and neighborhood. The solution was to lift the existing house a full 18 feet up and construct a new enlarged main level and basement with garage below. This transformation creates a larger, more spacious, and light-filled home that reinterprets the original bungalow vocabulary through a more contemporary lens, with updated proportions, detailing, and spatial flow, while still feeling grounded in its surroundings and familiar neighborhood context.

Lifting Tradition

Rather than demolish the existing bungalow, the design uses it as the starting point for the transformation. The original house was lifted to make room for a new enlarged main living level and a basement level with garage below. This creates a more spacious and light-filled home while also keeping a clear connection to what was already there. This approach allowed the project to grow substantially in size, but still remain grounded in the familiar character of the neighborhood. The addition gives the home a new level of function, while the original structure continues to shape its overall identity.
