Hex Mountain

Cascade Mountain Lookout

Hex Mountain sits above Cle Elum Lake, surrounded by dense forest, mountain views, and the changing conditions of the Cascade landscape. The clients needed a home that could support both quiet time in nature and the gear-heavy routines of outdoor recreation in eastern Washington. Our approach organized the house as a series of offset bars, allowing the main living spaces to open toward the lake while other areas frame views toward the surrounding mountains. This arrangement also created flatter, more usable outdoor spaces across the site, resulting in a home that feels practical, grounded, and closely tied to its setting.

View Shift

“Rather than treating the steep site as a constraint, we used it to shape the overall plan. The pair of shifted forms create a balance between view, access, and usability, giving the clients a home that feels connected to the mountain and lake without being difficult to live in.”
