Commercial Adaptive Reuse

Buildings are too often considered obsolete when they outlive the use for which they were originally intended, falling into disrepair or demolished to make way for something new.  Sometimes however, a different use can be found for an old structure, giving it new life.  That is the case for this former gas station, which is being converted into a coffee shop and cafe. The long roof canopy that once covered the gas pumps has been enclosed, and a large glass garage door opens the cafe to a new outdoor patio.  The material palette of polished concrete, blackened steel and wood are both warm and contemporary, and also reminiscent of the building’s utilitarian origin.
